The Vibrant Moore’s Journey of Integrated Circuits: The Magical Power of Big Numbers

Dr. M. S. Lin, Chairman of iCometrue, was invited to speak at the 2021 annual Marie Curie Chemistry Summer Camp for exceptional high school students interested in the natural sciences in Taipei, Taiwan, on July 30th, 2021. The title of the speech was “The Vibrant Moore’s Journey of Integrated Circuits: The Magical Power of Big Numbers”. Dr. Lin later wrote an article based on the speech and published it in “DIGITIMES”, a popular daily newspaper on electronic technology and business based in Taiwan, during November 15th~19th, 2021 in five serial articles consecutively. The following article (in English) was translated from the article (in Chinese) published in “DIGITIMES” with some revisions. The article was separated into five serial articles, and posted on this website on April 26th, 2022.

About the author: M. S. Lin is an inventor, founder and Chairman of iCometrue Company Ltd., and member of the Harvard University Global Advisory Council and Dean’s Advisory Cabinet for its School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. During his forty-year career in the semiconductor industry, M. S. Lin has twice ridden the waves of Moore’s Law and twice left to develop non-Moore’s Law technologies. His forty-year career in the semiconductor industry includes working for IBM, AT&T Bell Labs, TSMC, founding Megic and Megica, and then working for Qualcomm. M. S. Lin received his master’s and doctoral degrees in Applied Physics at Harvard University and his bachelor’s degree in Physics at National Taiwan University. Dr. Lin enjoys inventing and has been granted more than 300 U.S. patents.
